My Background
Daniel joined Unimaq in February 2025 as Logistics Coordinator, bringing with him eight years of experience in the motor trade, where he specialised in vehicle purchasing and developed a strong background in organisation, supplier relationships and problem solving.
Having become familiar with Unimaq through his partner, who has been part of the team for many years, Daniel recognised the opportunity to apply his experience in a completely different industry. Since joining the business, his role has naturally expanded beyond logistics and now includes responsibility for facilities management and health and safety, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the business alongside its operational requirements.

How I got into Canning?
After spending eight years in the motor trade in a vehicle buying role, I was ready for a fresh challenge. What attracted me to Unimaq was the opportunity to work within a highly specialised industry that many people don’t realise has such an important impact on everyday life. Almost everyone picks up a can at some point, but very few understand the engineering, precision and expertise required to produce the equipment that makes them.
Coming into an industry that was completely new to me was both exciting and challenging. One of the biggest learning curves was understanding the complex processes involved in designing and building our specialist machinery, while ensuring suppliers delivered components on time to keep projects running smoothly and avoid unnecessary delays.
Since joining Unimaq, I’ve enjoyed developing my knowledge of both the industry and our products. As my confidence has grown, so has my understanding of how every department works together to deliver successful projects for our customers.
I’ve also had the opportunity to visit several supplier sites, which has been invaluable. Meeting people face-to-face has helped strengthen relationships, improve communication and build a better understanding of the businesses we work with. Those relationships are an important part of ensuring we continue to deliver the high standards our customers expect.

Why Unimaq
One of the things I value most about working at Unimaq is the culture. Everyone works incredibly hard, but that commitment is recognised with a four-day working week. Having Fridays free allows me to spend quality time with my partner and our 15-month-old daughter, giving me a work-life balance that’s difficult to find elsewhere.
The company is also in an exciting position. With innovative new products being developed and the business moving forward under new ownership, I genuinely believe Unimaq has a very bright future and I’m proud to be part of that journey.
I’ve also been fortunate to work alongside some great people, particularly my manager, Carl. His knowledge of both the industry and the business is exceptional, and he’s always willing to share his experience. He started in the same position that I now hold, so seeing the career path he’s taken motivates me to continue learning and developing my own knowledge of the industry.
Although I joined as Logistics Coordinator, my role has naturally evolved over time. While managing suppliers and contractors, I recognised opportunities to bring several compliance activities in-house, including PAT testing and LOLER inspections. Rather than continuing to outsource these services, I completed the relevant training, invested in the necessary equipment and now carry out much of this work internally. This has reduced costs, improved flexibility and given me the opportunity to broaden my responsibilities further.
Since then, I’ve become involved in a variety of facilities management and health & safety projects, including the fire alarm installation at our new facility and supporting the ongoing installation of environmentally friendly solar panels. Being trusted with these additional responsibilities has made my role incredibly varied and has allowed me to contribute to the business in ways I never expected when I first joined.

How I see the 2-piece industry
I see the can industry as a vital and evolving sector that plays a huge role in everyday life. It’s an industry that must continually adapt through innovation, sustainability and efficiency. With increasing pressure to reduce waste and improve recyclability, I think there are exciting opportunities for companies that can combine quality manufacturing with environmental responsibility.

Away from work life        
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, especially making memories with my two daughters. I’m also a keen golfer, which I enjoy because it challenges me both mentally and technically. I like keeping active, learning new things and taking on projects that allow me to develop skills outside of my day-to-day role.
